The Goa Police has moved an application before the High Court seeking permission to close the Special Investigation Team constituted at the direction of the High Court specifically to register and investigate Matka-related cases. However, the petitioner, activist Kashinath Shetye, has opposed the Goa Police's plea to close the Matka SIT and has further requested that the matter be transferred either to the CBI or that the existing SIT be headed by a retired High Court judge. The High Court will hear the matter on 8 July.
