In a swift operation, the Konkan Railway Police in Goa apprehended a murder accused wanted in Karnataka within hours of receiving intelligence about his movement through the state.
According to police sources, information was received on Tuesday evening from authorities in Karwar that a suspect wanted in connection with a murder case registered at Panampur Police Station in Mangaluru, Karnataka, was likely travelling to Goa aboard the Hazrat Nizamuddin Express (Train No. 22655).
Acting on the alert, Police Inspector Vikram Naik of the Konkan Railway Police Station immediately constituted a special team comprising PSI Jitendra Gaude and police personnel Vasim Shaikh, Manjunath Dodamani and Sanjay Gaonkar. The team was deployed at Margao Railway Station and assigned surveillance duties at strategic locations.
Using CCTV footage, technical analysis and intelligence inputs, the police successfully identified and intercepted the suspect shortly after his arrival. The accused was then taken into custody and brought to the Konkan Railway Police Station for questioning.
During interrogation, the suspect identified himself as Prashant Kumar Bhandari, 36, a resident of Shivaji Nagar, Darbhanga, Bihar. Police said he is wanted in connection with a murder case registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Panampur Police Station in Karnataka.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of PI Vikram Naik and DySP Hiru Kavlekar, with overall guidance from Konkan Railway Superintendent of Police Shekhar Prabhudessai.
Following the arrest, the Konkan Railway Police informed the investigating officer of the Karnataka case, PI Mohammad Saleem of Panampur Police Station, to facilitate further legal procedures and transfer of custody.
The accused is currently being held at the Konkan Railway Police Station in Goa pending further action by the Karnataka Police.
