Strong opposition to the proposed urbanisation of Moira was voiced during the village gram sabha, with residents expressing concerns over the impact it could have on the village's traditional character and environment.
Villagers warned that urbanisation would lead to increased population pressure, traffic congestion, waste management challenges and environmental degradation. They feared that Moira's natural beauty, green spaces and unique village identity could be permanently affected if urbanisation plans are implemented.
Residents from different wards participated in the discussion and unanimously backed efforts to preserve the village's traditional landscape and ecological balance. Speakers stressed that development should not come at the cost of Moira's heritage and environmental sustainability.
Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira, who was present at the meeting, also addressed the gathering. Villagers urged authorities to protect Moira's rural character and ensure that future planning decisions reflect the wishes of the local community.
