Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said the state government is intensifying efforts to generate employment through partnerships with the private sector, while encouraging youth to broaden their career aspirations beyond government jobs.
Speaking at the Mega Job Fair, Sawant said the event offers more than 5,000 job vacancies and is expected to attract over 10,000 job seekers from across Goa. He stressed that the government is committed to creating opportunities for young people and equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in an evolving job market.
The Chief Minister said the state is investing in skill development programmes for students from Arts, Commerce and Science backgrounds to improve their employability and prepare them for opportunities in various sectors.
In a significant announcement, Sawant said the government will introduce bus fare concessions for women employed in the private sector, reducing travel costs on KTCL and Mhaji Bus services. He added that several welfare initiatives are in the pipeline and will be rolled out over the next two to three months.
Addressing concerns about employment opportunities for locals, the Chief Minister said labour inspectors have begun monitoring industrial estates across the state to assess the number of Goans employed in private industries and track vacancies filled by companies.
“We want to ensure greater employment opportunities for Goans and are closely monitoring the situation in industrial units,†he said.
Sawant also highlighted the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the workforce, urging young people and professionals to embrace new technologies and continuously upgrade their skills.
“Some jobs may be affected in the AI era, but new opportunities will emerge. People must learn AI, adapt to changing trends and continue improving their skills,†he said.
The Chief Minister further announced that the government is working on new regulations for companies, including a revision of minimum wages. He said efforts are also underway to secure better salaries for employees with five to ten years of experience in the private sector.
The announcements reflect the government’s broader focus on employment generation, workforce development and improving working conditions in the private sector while preparing Goa’s youth for future challenges and opportunities.
