Lifeguards are important people for a coastal state such as Goa to ensure safe and secure tourism at the beaches and water bodies. However, jobs of safety and security are viewed as male centric with very little room for females to explore such professions. Females rarely choose such professions due to a lack of female companions. But among the crowd of negativity there are some who create positive vibes and send motivating messages to society. Harsha Naik is one of them. She was part of the first batch of female lifeguards employed at Drishti Lifesaving marine services in Goa. She is a classic example to show that if a person, particularly a woman, has the willpower, there is nothing that is impossible to achieve. Harsha experiences lots of challenges while working in a male-centric job, but she is always determined to overcome these challenges. Earlier, rescuing women was a difficult task for male lifeguards due to certain safety and security constraints pertaining to women, but this task has been made easy with a female on board to guarantee safety.
