A school for children with special needs was inaugurated at Cacora, Curchorem. Ministers Nilesh Cabral and Subhash Phal Dessai were present during the inauguration. Minister and Curchorem MLA Cabral said, "You can't have a seperate school for children with special needs according to the directives specified by the National Education Policy (NEP). You are differentiating between children by doing so."
Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai said, "Children with special needs must be educated with respect just like regular children. We are trying to ensure that respectable education is guaranteed to these children."
Children with special needs require special attention and can't learn enough with regular students in High Schools. Parents feel shy to send their children to schools meant for children with special needs. Social Worker Raju Naik from Curchorem opened a school for children with special needs under Chetna Charitable Trust. This is a state of the art school with all modern infrastructure and facilities. There are smart boards in classrooms. Besides, there is a gym, auditorium and yoga room.
