In every town and city across Goa, there are specific streets where migrant laborers gather early in the morning to look for work. Lately, these laborers have preferred working for big contractors who pay them very well. This makes it difficult for the general public to hire them, as they often refuse to work for ordinary citizens unless they are paid exceptionally high wages.
Irked with this issue, residents of Canacona have approached their local MLA, demanding a fixed standard wage for daily labour. The locals believe this cap will help control skyrocketing wages and make it affordable for the public to employ them once again.
