A 38-year-old man from Chodan drowned while on a shell fishing expedition at Diwar island in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Umesh Shirodkar, a resident of Saude Wado, Chodan, in Tiswadi taluka.
According to sources, Shirodkar had left for shell fishing at around 4 a.m. along with four other persons when the incident occurred. During the fishing activity, he reportedly got into difficulty in the water and drowned.
Following the incident, local residents and authorities were alerted, and a search operation was launched. Police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
