Three persons lost their lives in separate road accidents reported from different parts of Goa, while a major accident was narrowly avoided near the University Circle on Sunday.

In the first incident, a tipper truck carrying sand from Karnataka to Goa plunged into a gorge near the Dudhsagar Temple in Anmod Ghat, resulting in the death of the driver. According to police, the truck was travelling towards Goa when it suddenly veered off the road and fell into the deep gorge. The exact cause of the accident remains unknown.

Rescue teams and police personnel rushed to the spot and undertook a recovery operation. The driver's body was later retrieved from the mangled vehicle. His identity had not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.

In another tragic accident, 69-year-old Vijay S. Chavan, a resident of Pilliem in Dharbandora, succumbed to injuries sustained in a collision involving his scooter and an oncoming motorcycle. Police said the accident occurred when Chavan was reportedly turning towards a petrol pump. The impact threw him off his scooter, causing serious injuries. He was rushed for medical treatment but later died.

Meanwhile, a tourist police constable, Ketan Gawde (25) from Cumbarjua, was killed in a car–two-wheeler collision at Sauntavaddo, Baga. Calangute Police have registered a case and launched a search for the car driver, a resident of Kolhapur, who allegedly fled the scene after the accident.

In a separate incident, a major accident was narrowly averted near the University Circle when the driver of a BMW reportedly swerved sharply to avoid a woman riding a two-wheeler who entered the road without checking for oncoming traffic. The woman was reportedly on her way to a job fair when the car approached the junction.

The BMW driver took evasive action and crashed into the junction structure, preventing a direct collision. No injuries were reported in the incident, though the luxury car sustained significant damage. Further details are awaited.
