Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Thursday announced that MRI services will be launched at the South Goa District Hospital in July, while the hospital is expected to be fully upgraded and modernised by October this year.

The minister made the announcement after inaugurating a new chemotherapy department at the hospital and reviewing the existing healthcare infrastructure and facilities.

Speaking to reporters, Rane said the government is committed to strengthening healthcare services in South Goa and ensuring that patients receive advanced medical facilities closer to home.

He stated that the addition of MRI services would significantly improve diagnostic capabilities at the district hospital and reduce the burden on Goa Medical College and private hospitals.

Rane also held a review meeting with hospital officials to assess ongoing infrastructure works, medical services, and future development plans aimed at upgrading the hospital into a more modern healthcare facility.

The newly inaugurated chemotherapy department is expected to benefit cancer patients from South Goa by improving access to treatment within the district itself.
